Another awesome yet hard day as we plodded from Seaburn to Seaham. A huge thanks again to Grand Hotel Sunderland for an epic night stay with the most spectacular view! We left and had a later start at 8 and were joined for the first 2 miles by a little girl called Felicity and her mum Andrea. We chatted and walked and the girls searched for sea glass and shells.
We then ventured on to Sunderland..it was SO hot at this point and we just so happened to walk past a garage so we got ourselves a calippo to enjoy. We had a guy shout from his window cheering Alba on and a cyclist did a U turn to come see what we were doing & donate! Walking past Sunderland University and a member of staff spotted us and came to donate.
Crossing the huge bridge into Sunderland and we headed to Sunderland Mind Page and boy was it raining at this point. We spotted their amazing welcome Alba sign and such a warm welcome we received! We stayed a good 1.5 hours chatting away and looking around. We got gifts too and Alba got some money for treats. So grateful and something we'll be doing as we walk around England.
We then headed for Seaham and it was now super warm again. The cliffs and coastal path were amazing! We even bumped into a man and his beagle, turns out he was a mental health nurse and he took one of Alba's cards. It felt like we were going at a snails pace although looking at Strava we made a good pace and completed our 11+ miles in a great time with little stops. Alba did incredible! Singing and dancing and walking like a pro. I have many blisters including one of the very bottom of my foot..ouch! And yet people worry and complain about Alba in her wellies and yet her feet are just fine and she's still running. After 4 days of heavy miles we've reached that stage where our bags feel a little heavier and the calves are aching but we push on.
Into Seaham and we met a man walking his lovely little Whippet Luna! We walked with them and chatted and fed her treats and spotted his donation in her link when we reached our accommodation too. It really finished the day off nicely.
I have to say a huge thanks to Lickety Split who offered for us to call in but sadly we didn't make it in time.
We arrived to our amazing accommodation, dumped our bags and ventured out to find Tommy. Alba's been so excited to find the statue and stood in awe
She also finally got her Costa Coffee !
Alba picked out some Yorkshire mixture from Creams of Seaham and we called into Downeys for a chippy tea
So many incredible people we've met along the route so far, awesome people and so welcoming and cheering her (and me!) on and honestly it really helps
